Public Liability Insurance

Often referred to as commercial general liability insurance, this protects your company if a customer or client sues. Typically, it will cover you if someone is injured on your premises or if you or one of your employees hurts someone or damages property at a client's business. Many of these policies cover personal injury through libel or slander or misrepresentation of your product or service. A full-service insurance broker can familiarise you with other types of insurance that small businesses in your field may need. Typically, public liability insurance doesn't cover claims related to your use of professional judgement, which would fall under errors and omissions (E&O) or professional liability insurance. You may want to look into employment practices liability (EPL) insurance, which protects you from employee lawsuits, and umbrella liability policies, which can be tailored to protect you from multiple kinds of legal liability or excess liability not covered in your general policy.
