Endowments
What will happen to your gift? Is it a temporary fix to plug a hole in your charity's finances, or will it be part or all of its endowment (money intended to be invested and provide income for the charity in perpetuity)? The principal or initial investment of an endowment is supposed to remain intact. For instance, some top universities in the U.K. have very large endowments that have grown over time through well-informed investing. If you plan to fund an endowment, you will likely need an experienced money manager to run it.
In India, college endowments are not very common. Wealthy business families and religious organizations are the main originators of endowments.
