Codicil
This is an amendment or addition to a will that must be signed and witnessed—usually by at least two disinterested parties—to be valid, just like the will itself. Codicils are often found in large, complex or evolving estates. Codicils that are poorly executed can lead to lawsuits amongst heirs and to claims that the revised version of the will is invalid. As an alternative to codicils, some estate planners recommend writing a completely new version of the will to avoid confusion.
