Stamp Duty
In the U.K., stamp duty land tax (SDLT) is paid on the purchase price of a property by the buyer. It is tiered, based on the price of the property, from zero to 4%. The thresholds are currently subject to regular adjustments, and you should check online to determine how much you are likely to pay. Most Commonwealth countries have some form of stamp duty—or several forms, depending on where you live. In India, for instance, the laws governing this tax vary from state to state.
