Home Improvements
In a buyer's market, many property sellers try to make their homes more attractive through home improvements. A 2008 report by Abbey, the bank owned by Santander, showed that U.K. homeowners who made significant home improvements were unlikely to recoup the cost in a boost to their asking price. For example, a conservatory costing £20,000 typically added only £6,200 to the value of the home. Among the fixes with the biggest payback were garden improvements, freshly painted walls and new fixtures and fittings.
