When the financial arrangements following divorce are contested in England and Wales, it is open to one party to ask the court to intervene to impose a solution on the parties. Where this happens, the spouses involved will have to prepare detailed statements of their financial positions and will have to provide evidence such as bank statements, pay slips, tax returns and company accounts. The court can force parties to provide backup evidence to verify the figures.
