Infertility Treatments

Infertility affects at least a quarter of all couples at some stage in their lives, according to the British Fertility Society. There are a number of treatments. In intrauterine insemination, for instance, sperm from the partner or a donor is injected into the woman. In vitro fertilisation (IVF), another common procedure, involves the removal of eggs from the woman for fertilisation with sperm in a dish. Surgery can remedy some types of infertility, such as endometriosis in a woman. Tackling infertility can be expensive and often requires careful financial planning. In the U.K., not all treatments are offered by every local National Health Service (NHS) trust. Around the world, most infertility treatments are not included in private medical insurance plans.
