Gilts
Gilts are bonds issued by the government to raise money. There are two types, conventional gilts and index-linked gilts. They pay a fixed income over a specified time, up to 50 years, and you can invest directly or through a stockbroker. Since they are the safest types of bonds, they have very low interest rates.
